But when it comes to exterior doors, you have to take extra care because it gets beating from season to season. Constant exposure to different elements really makes your exterior door bad, so it is very important to change the paint of the exterior door very often.

If you decided to paint your door, then it is necessary to strip off the old paint before painting the new one. By doing this you can maintain your door with great looking and it also helps to preserve your door wood for many years. Another key idea to make your door as great-looking exterior door is that sanding before refinishing.

Door profile sanding not only helps to make your door good but also helps to be string forever. Here are some of the useful tips for door sanding and how to do profile sanding in an effective way,

  • First place the door on blanket covered with sawhorses. Placing sawhorses helps you to prevent the door from damage.
  • It is better to remove all the hardware like back plates, hinges, and door knobs from the door before sanding.
  • Then sand the door with a hit-or-miss orbital profile sander which is outfitted with a 80-grit sanding disk because it helps to take out all the old paint from the door.
  • Sanding the door should be done in such a way that all the large flat surfaces of the door should be sanded first, then sand the outside and inside edges of the door.
  • After sanding with 80-grit sanding disk, change the sander disk to the 120 grit to smooth the marks and small dust particles left on the door.
  • Repeat the same sanding procedure, that is first cover large flat areas and then cover the edges.
  • Remaining small area can be sanded with hands.
  • It is important to sand the horizontal parts first, that is the rails of the door. Then scratch the long vertical parts which known as stiles.
